Sheldon Raymond Nelson 73, Malad and former Weston resident, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, in Malad.
He was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Malad, a son of Raymond Alfred and Ann Evans Nelson. He grew up and was educated in Weston. During World War 11 he served in the U.S. Navy, assigned to the U.S.S. Fuller, and spent his tour of duty in Guatemala.
He married Ettamae Carpenter Jan. 26, 1948. They were later divorced.
Sheldon had worked for Crowther Mill in Malad and for several years was employed by the Oneida County road crew. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and especially camping out. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by one son, David (Sheryl) Bennett) Nelson, Nibley, Utah; and one daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Andrew, Deweyville, Utah; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith (DeMar) smart, Magna, Utah; and Betty (Ronald) Mason, Spokane, Wash.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at 1 p.m. in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post #65.
