Gordon Lee “Hoot” Avery passed away peacefully on November 10 2021 of natural causes surrounded by his family. His loving wife of nearly 70 years was holding his hand as he passed. He lived a great life. He was born on July 7, 1930 in Lava, Idaho to George and Florence Avery. At the age of 11 Hoot was shot in the chest in a hunting accident but it was not his time to go. A year later he was milking 20 cows day and night. By age 15 he was working on the railroad. In 1949 he met Janet at a town dance and soon after began to date. They were married on July 22, 1952 and resided in Lava Hot Springs. They would be sealed in the Logan, Utah temple July 16, 1965. Later they would start their family with the first of what would be 5 children. In 1958 Hoot and Janet bought the family farm in McCammon that they would raise their family on. Throughout his life Hoot was always the life of the party and loved to joke and tease at all times. He was active in the Mormon church throughout his life. In his spare time Hoot enjoyed Square dancing and spending time with his family. Later in life he was very involved in all of his grandkids lives and loved to support then in all they participated in. He supported Marsh Valley athletics and attended almost all their games both hone and away. After he retired from the farm he turned his attention to taking care of his yard and flower and to decorating his yard with Christmas lights that you could see from miles away. Hoot was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed but his memory will live on in the values he taught the 4 generations he presided over all these years. He is survived by his wife Janet Avery, his children, Steven (Cindy) Avery, Lane Avery, Russ(Teresia) Avery, Sherry (Rick) Hood and Kathy (Mitch) Barker. 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his 5 sisters, 1 brother and grandchildren Amanda Avery Dutton, Derek Avery and Marshal Avery. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 15 at 12 noon in the McCammon LDS Stake Center with Bishop Khris Kofford presiding. Friends may visit with the family that morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery.
