GOLDA MAE TUBBS MISENHIMER

ROCKLAND – Golda Mae Tubbs Misenhimer completed her journey on this earth on October 17, 2012. She was born November 23, 1912 in Holbrook, ID to Albert and Katherine Tubbs. Mom grew up in Holbrook area getting her education in Holbrook and Bear River High School. Life in those days was not easy, coming from a family of ten, there were always chores to do like feeding and harnessing a team of horses for the day of work before school.

In the summers the girls would help cook for the harvest crews and tending to a very large garden, almost everything was home grown and canned for use later on in the season. There were no grocery stores to go to for needs. There were always trips in the fall to Utah to get fruit to be canned. Can you imagine riding a horse or in a wagon 15 miles just to shop or pick up feed, or riding a horse to school each day? Not today!

Mom married William Howard Misenhimer in 1934, and the results of this marriage were five children, Valora Spackman, Rigby; Kenneth Misenhimer; Dee (Connie) Misenhimer, Filer, ID; Lary (Pat) Misenhimer, American Falls, ID; Dallas Misenhimer, Midlothian, TX. From this came 40 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren; four great-great-great grandchildren. I think this is close.

Mom loved to sew and do needlepoint. There are many sets of dish towels out there that she has sewn for grand kids and friends and relatives.

After Dad passed away in 1966, Mom went back to work as a cook at the school, where she became very close to a lot of kids as they grew up. Mom also would take care of kids from many different families in the area, and that is where the nick name of Grandma Golda came from.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard, a son, Kenneth, two granddaughters, Margo and Allison, and three brothers and four sisters.

A short service will be held October 20, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rockland Ward. Interment will follow at the Valley View Cemetery.
