Delilah Z. Harris
Lila passed away peacefully in her sleep from natural causes at the home of her daughter, Gloria Ellsworth in Standwood, Washington.
Lila was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. Quilting and crocheting were he hobbies and she made many beautiful quilts, dolls and other items. She loved teaching children at church and held many positions in that capacity. She had a very generous heart and her home was always open to family and friends.
Lila was born in Oregon and grew up in Arizona. She married and later divorced Gloria’s father. During WWII she was one of the famous “Rosie the Riverter” women.
In 1945 she moved with her daughter to Malad to take care of her uncle, Dave Zundel. In 1948 she married Alvin Harris, with whom she found peace and stability. They resided on Bannock Street. After he passed away, Lila took care of her mother until she died.
In 1983 Lila’s doctor said she had less than a year to live so Gloria brought her to the Seattle area to live with her family. Lila’s health improved and she outlived her doctor. She moved to the Stanwood area in 1998 with her daughter and son-in-law from the Seattle area.
She is survived by two brothers; her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and David Ellsworth; two granddaughters, Camille (Glynn) Edwards and Sharilyn (Hank) Werner; and four great grandchildren, all with whom she had a wonderful relationship. She will be greatly missed.
Services are September 13 at the Stanwood/Camano Island LDS Chapel.
