Alfred E. Hargrave, Sr.

HARGRAVE, ALFRED E., SR., April 12, 1921 – July 18, 2008

Alfred E. Hargrave, Sr., died July 18, 2008 after a long illness. He was born April 12, 1921 in Idaho Falls, where he lived until he attended Idaho State University graduating from the College of Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was stationed in India and parts of the Pacific.

A long time resident of Malad, Idaho, Al owned the Rexal Drug. He attended the Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his horses. He moved to Gladstone, Oregon in 1971, leaving a large part of his heart in Malad. He continued his career until he moved in 1993 to Vancouver, Washington when he retired to the Fairway Village community. He golfed, played bridge and was a member of the Elks Club. Al and Emma traveled extensively after they retired. Al was most proud that all three of his children graduated from college.

A memorial with Military Honors was celebrated August 8 with interment in the Tahoma National Cemetery.

Al is survived by his wife of 61 years. Emma; two daughters, Anne Hand (Jim), Debbie Masingill; son, Alfred, Jr. (Susan); and seven grandchildren: Doug Hand, Jennifer Hand, VanNoy, Scott Hand, Ryan and Jeff Massingill, Sarah and Evan Hargrave; and two great-grandchildren, Malone and Anna VanNoy.
