Zephaniah Jones, (1913)

JONES, ZEPHANIAH, November 18, 1913 – July 3, 2008

POCATELLO – Zephaniah (Zeph) Jones, 94, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at a local care center.

Zeph was born November 18, 1913 to George Wilford Jones and Lillian Parry. Zeph was the eighth of eleven children, and he was the last surviving child. He was raised in Malad, Idaho, and attended schools there. After high school graduation, Zeph left the family farm to attend the Diesel Power Engineering School in San Francisco, California. He graduated in April, 1935 and returned to Malad and married β€œthe girl down the lane,” Mae Hunsker on July 5, 1935 in Pocatello.

Zeph was a longtime employee of the Union Pacific Railroad. Zeph received the six-year continuous membership certificate from the United Transportation Union on Sept. 10, 1991. He enjoyed fishing, square dancing and making stained glass articles. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling extensively.

Mae preceded Zeph in death in September, 2007. Surviving are his two sons, Roger Jones (Lenore), Glenns Ferry, Idaho, and Keith Jones (Letty), Pocatello; a daughter, Betty Curtis, Pocatello; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held July 8 at the Malad City Cemetery.
