Wanda Marie Jones

JONES, WANDA MARIE, November 17, 1923 – April 26, 2008

Wanda Marie Jones, 84, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Malad, died April 26, 2008 at the Idaho Falls Good Samaritan Nursing Center. She was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.

She was born November 17, 1923 in Malad to Lavern L. “Short” Jones and Margaret Edwards Jones. She was raised on the family farm in Cherry Creek and attended schools in Malad and graduated from Malad High School in 1941. She graduated from Henager’s Business College and held several secretarial positions in Salt Lake City.

She married Thomas D. Jones on June 19, 1943 in Tampa, Florida, where he was serving in the military. While her husband was stationed over-seas during World War II, she attended the University of Idaho and was a member of the Alpha Rho Chapter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

She and her husband settled in Malad, where she was active in many community organizations. She was a member of the Malad American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter. She was also active in the Oneida County PTA, and served as President of the Idaho Parent-Teacher Association, Fifth District. She was actively involved in the Miss Malad Pageant for 20 years.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a devoted wife and mother of two sons; Thomas D. Jones, Jr. and Jeffrey E. Jones. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and cooking for her family and friends. She spent many years taking care of her parents and other friends and relatives.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey E. (Laurie) Jones of Idaho Falls, grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Boyer of Cedar City, Utah, Aimee (David) Hadley of Idaho Falls, Thomas D. (Heather) Jones III of Spanish Fork, Utah and Jeffrey A. Jones of Boise, Idaho, and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Helen Jones (Stuart) Duncan of Orem, Utah, and her brother David C. Jones of Ogden, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Thomas D. Jones, Jr., brothers Lavern Jones, Ernest Jones, Grant Jones and sister, Lois Walton.

Funeral services will be held May 1, 2008 at Horsley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery.
