William Ross Cottam

William Ross Cottam (Birth – Aug. 25, 1894)

Funeral services were held at Curlew Ward, Snowville, Tuesday for William Ross Cottam, age 75, who died Friday (1 May 1970) at his ranch at Stone. When Mr. Cottam failed to return Friday evening from a fencing job, his wife notified their son, Lamon, who with Wallace and Merrill Hurd, found the body near the fence. Mr. Cottam had apparently suffered a heart attack.

Bishop Thomas Larkin officiated at the services and speakers were Archy Roe, Bishop Blaine Hickman, Bishop Thomas Larkin and Harvey Harris, who read the obituary. The family prayer was offered by Jim Goble; invocation, by Henry Van Leeuwen; benediction, by Russell Roe. Doyle Cutler and Delene Cutler sang two duets and Bishop and Mrs. Wells Willie and Mr. and Mrs. Don Eliason presented a vocal selection. Accompanists were Iris Hill and Rennis Larkin, who also played prelude and postlude music.

Flowers were carried by granddaughters and members of Curlew Relief Society, Edith Harris, president.

Honorary bearers were High Priest Quorum of Curlew Ward and Home Teachers, Russell Roe and Kelly Roe.

Casket bearers were Warren Hatch, Allen Hatch, James Pett, Ronald Cottle, Steve Pendergraft, Steve Lofton, Larry Cottam, Devon Tippetts.

Ushers were Austin Tippetts, Dwayne Cottam. Programs were passed out by Larry Morris and Ralph Morris.

Asahel Wilkins offered the dedicatory prayer at Snowville Cemetery.

Burial was directed by Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Cottam was born Aug. 25, 1894 at Snowville, Utah, to William and Harriet Neal Cottam. He received his education in the Snowville schools. On Sept. 6, 1916, he married Clara Tippetts in the Logan LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church.

Surviving are his widow, Stone; three sons and three daughters, William Keith, Lafayette, Ore.; Neil Lamon, Snowville; Austin Delone, Mrs. Amel (Zelda) Funk, Mrs. Stanley (Emma Jean) Waldron, all of McMinnville, Ore.; Mrs. Orin (Gwenivere) Hatch, Roy, Utah; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Asahel (Irene) Wilkins, Malad; Mrs. Clayton “Jim” (Alta) Goble, Mrs. Henry (Mae Morris) Van Leeuwen, Ogden.
