William Neal Moon

William Neal Moon, 21 July 1916

William “Neal” Moon, 80, of Pocatello, passed away December 4, 1996 at a local medical care facility.

He was born July 21, 1916 in Cherry Creek, ID, the oldest of six children of William Earling Moon and Deseret Camp Moon. He attended grade school and high school in Malad, ID. He later graduated from the University of Idaho, Southern Branch, with a teaching certificate.

On July 29, 1936 he married Phyllis Castle in the Logan, UT LDS Temple. In June of 1945 Neal entered the Army and served during World War II.

His various occupations included work in a hardware store called the Bargain Barn here in Pocatello. He was later employed at ZCMI as a salesman and retired from Farmers insurance as an underwriter.

Neal was a member of the LDS Church and had held many calling, including second counselor in the ward bishopric, stake clerk and branch president at the Spanish branch, St. Anthony Place, and at the Barmouth branch, where he and his wife, Phyllis, served a mission in Wales in 1984.

He was an avid gardener and loved raising vegetables and giving them away, as they always had enough for themselves and others. A favorite hobby of Neal’s was to play Santa Claus at Farmers Insurance, schools and churches. He was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Golden Kiwanis and Toastmasters service groups.

Neal is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Pocatello; three daughters, Phyllis (Zenith) Baker, Moreland, ID; Beverly (Bob) Randall, Pocatello; and Elaine Moon, Pocatello; four sons, Marvin (Liz) Moon, Hebron, CN; Daryl (Terrie) Moon, Fallon, NV; Merlin (Marie) Moon, Pocatello; and Merrill (Jill) Moon, Pocatello; two brothers, Grant Moon, Melbourne, FA and Devar Moon, Mojave Valley, AZ; three sisters, Thora Jensen, Malad; Ila Tobler and Neva Hess, both of Henderson, NV; 25 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He as preceded indeath by a daughter, Eilene, and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Second Ward Chapel, Pocatello. Interment will be at Montainview Cemetery, Pocatello.
