WILLIAM E. THOMAS

William Evans “Tall Bill” Thomas, 89, died April 20, 1987 in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1897 in Malad to Benjamin L. and Elizabeth Evans Thomas. He grew up and was educated in Malad where he was a lifelong resident.

He married Bessie Crookston June 5, 1935 in Malad. She died March 13, 1984.

For many years he served in Malad as police chief and also served as Oneida County Sheriff.

He was a member of the LDS Church and the Southeast Idaho Police Officers Assn. Following his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Don (Eileen) Aste, San Carlos, CA; three granddaughters, Lisa Stiles, Lauren Aste and Kelly Luttrell and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held in the Malad LDS First Ward chapel with Bishop Sheldon Jensen officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
