WILLIAM A. BELL JR.


William Arvel Bell Jr., 65, of Portage, Utah, and formerly of Malad, died Wednesday, February 13, in the University of Utah Medical Center.
He was born July 5, 1925, in Malad, the son of William Arvel and Mary Jones Bell, He grew up and was educated in Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School. During World War ll he served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Japan.
He married Elma Jon on May 14, 1947, in Ogden, Utah. They lived in Ogden for three years, and in Woodruff for a short time. Since 1950, he has resided in Portage.
He had worked at the Navy base in Ogden, and farmed for many years. For several years he had worked at the Defense Depot in Ogden. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially working with his horses and farming.
He is survived by his wife, Elma of Portage, Utah; four sons, Gary W., Plymouth, Utah; Grant A. and Darrell J., both of Portage; and Brent R., of Brigham City, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Debra) Petersen, Kaysville, Utah, and Mrs. Nolan (Janice) Thueson, Nampa; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother Devere Bell, Ogden, Utah; and one sister, Mrs. Edis (Ileen) Henderson, Riverdale, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one great-grandson, and one brother.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Portage LDS Ward Chapel, and burial was the in Portage Cemetery.
