Funeral Services for Wm. A. McClurg

Wm. A. McClurg, age 94, died Feb 22, 1967 at Oneida Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at Benson Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Richard B. Goodier, Malad Presbyterian Church. The obituary was read by Clyde Hanson. Vocal duets were sung by Margaret Boam and Muriel Wilding. Funeral rites were conducted by I.O.O.F. Portneuf Lodge No. 20 with graveside committal service at Malad City Cemetery. Flowers were arranged by friends and neighbors. Casket bearers were John A. Evans, Marion Price, Wayne Archibald, Devere Illum, John South and Caleb Nibert.

Mr. McClurg was born Sept. 16, 1873, at Mt. Ayre, Iowa, to James and Sarah Ann Aldrich McClurg. He was reared and educated at Mt. Ayre. He married Lavina Kraus in 1892 at Mt. Ayre. She died Oct. 6, 1926 at Malad. Mr. McClurg resided at malad since 1901.

He married Winnie Evans Greer June 2, 1930 at Salt lake City. She died Oct. 25, 1960 at Malad.

Mr. McClurg was a member of O.O.O.F. lodge and Modern Woodmen of America. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

For many years he was a wholesale agent for Continental Oil Co.

He operated a transfer business here, and in partnership with W.A. Nunnelley, conducted a coal business. Governor Ben A. Ross appointed him as manager of the Malad liquor store, a position he held from 1935 to 1939. He and his wife were employed at Ogden Arsenal, and after returning to Malad, formed a contracting business with Josh F. Evans. In 1953 he was appointed traffic judge.

Active in Modern Woodmen and Odd Fellow lodges, he embodied the brotherhood of the organizations. He received a 55 year pin from the Odd Fellows in 1964. Mr. McClurg was Oneida County Democratic chairman and secretary.

Surviving are sons Williams K., Farmington, Utah and Ralph C. , Semi, Calif.; and a daughter, Mrs. Stella Thomas, Sunland, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
