Wanda Howell Williams, (1921)

WILLIAMS, WANDA HOWELL, July 23, 1921 – July 26, 2008

POCATELLO – Wanda Howell Williams, 87, Pocatello, died July 26, 2008 at her home. She was born July 23, 1921 to John C. and Margaret Rebecca Howell in Portage, Utah. She was the 13th of 14 children. She said that 13 was always her lucky number. Wanda graduated from Bear River High School and attended Grimms Business College.

Wanda married Oliver E. Williams July 23, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived all of their married life in Pocatello, Idaho.

She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Linda (Robert) Marley, Pocatello; Kathleen (Rickie) Kirkham, Pocatello; one son, Dr. Alan O. Williams, Pueblo, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nan Beckstrom, Utah; Nola Harrison, Utah; and Velda Morgan, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver, brothers, James Henry Howell, John Wilbur Howell, Thomas Edmund Howell, Alva Goldwin Howell, Ralph J. Howell, sisters, Margaret Rose Harris, Ruth Vondella Baird, Nona Archibald, Bertha Althea Johnson, Twila Rebecca Oxborrow and great-granddaughter, Devan Williams.

She worked at First Security Bank and Idaho Bank and Trust as a secretary and teller. She also worked at Air Alum Door and Window, the Naval Ordinance Plant, as a real estate agent, and ran the post office at Bistline’s. The role she most enjoyed was being a wife and mother.

Wanda loved life and her family, and she loved serving them. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Wanda was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including ward Primary president, ward Young Women’s Mutual Improvement Assn. president, ward Relief Society president, and she served in the stake Relief Society presidency. She also taught in the various organizations.

Wanda was very creative and she loved painting, writing, reading, sewing, crocheting and she had the talent of playing the piano by ear. She was a great cook and organizer. She had a wonderful sense of humor that endeared her to all.

Funeral services will be conducted August 1, 2008 in the Cornelison-Henderson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Pocatello.
