Virgil W. Williams, 30 March 1918

Virgil W. Williams, 77, passed away February 11, 1996 at St. George, Utah. He was born March 30, 1918 at Elkhorn, Oneida County, ID to David Moroni and Martha Kent Williams. Virgil attended grade school in Elkhorn and graduated from Malad High School in 1936.

He did farm work and occasional construction work until the fall of 1939. Then he went to Bishop, CA and worked as an apprentice miner for US Vanadium Mining Company. Later he was employed at Douglas Aircraft Co. in Santa Monica, CA. Virgin was inducted into the US Air Force in March of 1943 and was discharged November 25, 1945. He returned to Malad to operate the family farm.

While continuing farming, Virgil worked at a variety of jobs, including construction of the Willard Bay project, building the railroad roadbed across the Great Salt lake, and 20 years at Thiokol Chemical Company.

After retiring, he and his wife, Ila May, had spent their winters in St. George, UT and enjoyed their summers on the farm in Malad Valley.

He is survived by his wife and sons, Merrell (Jan) of Allen, TX and Delon (Roxanne) of Bountiful, UT; four grandsons and four granddaughters; one brother, David of League City, TX; two sisters, Norma Hackney of Las Cruces, NM; and Betty (Dick) Vanden Akker of St. George, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hilton and Farion and one sister, Artella Larsen.
