Walter S. Fredrich

FREDRICH, WALTER S, June 11, 1893 – March 21, 1970

Walter S. Fredrich, age 76, died Saturday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Earl Tubbs, Samaria. Mr. Fredrich had farmed in the Bull Canyon area of Arbon Valley for many years, having homesteaded there in 1913. Many visitors went to his ranch to see the outstanding collection of rocks he had arranged around his yard and buildings. He also had a collection of old tools and wagons. He had been a fire warden for the Arbon Valley Bureau of Land Management District for 20 years and received an award for his service.

Mr. Fredrich had logged timber from his ranch and operated a sawmill, supplying lumber for nearby communities. During the depression years, he had operated an old time rodeo each July 4th. He lived at his ranch year –round until about six years ago when he began spending his winters in Arizona.

Mr. Fredrich was born June 11, 1893 at Spokane, WA, to Simon and Rosina Mund Fredrich. He married Rachel Fryer on August 4, 1918. She died December 9, 1957.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Betty) Tubbs, Samaria; Mrs. Josh (Frances) Mitchell, Baltimore, MD; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, sisters, Reinhold, Albert, Rupert; Mrs. Ida Mesterman, Seattle; Mrs. Martha Fincher, Mrs. Esther Heneley, Spokane.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Malad Second LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Robert Waldron officiating.

Family prayer was offered by Dale Tubbs; the invocation by Bishop John Roderick and the benediction by Max Pilgrim. Speakers were Lloyd Hubbard and Bishop Gordon Crowther and J.A. Neal read the obituary. Foster Ipsen sang a solo and Clyde Jensen played a violin solo. Accompanists were Lori Jenson and Jessie John, who also played prelude and postlude music.

Bishop Carl A. Evans offered the dedicatory prayer. Flowers were arranged by Samaria Ward Relief Society members, Margaret Hughes, president.
