Virgil R. Durfee (Birth 11 Aug 1921/Death 04 Dec 1986)

DECLO – Virgil R. Durfee, 65 year old Declo resident, died Thursday, December 4, 1986, at the Hazeldel-Skyview Manor in Twin Falls.

He was born August 11, 1921, at Almo, Idaho, the son of Edwin R. and Jeanette Brackenbury Durfee. He grew up at Almo and served in the Navy during World War Two. He married LaVerne Darringtoin at Vallejo, California on April 24, 1943. They lived at Pocatello for a year, where he worked at the Naval gun plant. They then farmed and ranched in the Raft River area. In 1952 they moved to Stone and he worked at the Elison Ranch and also at Thikol. They returned to the Twin Falls and Burley area and he worked for a time as a brand inspector. In 1969 they moved to Declo where he had since resided and was employed by Simplot’s until retiring in 1981. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1981. He was a member of the LDS Church and served on the Rodeo Board at Stone for five years.

Surviving are one son Virgil Max Durfee, Burley, Idaho, one daughter Alta Jean Fischer, Twin Falls, Idaho; two brothers Harold Durfee, Almo, Idaho; Howard Durfee, Newport, Washington; ten grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 6, 1986, at the Almo LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop E. Bruce Durfee, officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the American Legion, VFW, DAV, WWI and WWII Veterans, was at the Almo Cemetery.
