Verna Lewis Harris, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at her home.
She was born in St. John, Idaho on November 5, 1923 to Thomas J. Lewis and Martha Thomas Lewis.
Verna was married to Cpl. Pete Green of Kaysville on March 25, 1943. He was a paratrooper who was killed jumping into France on D-day.
She then married Milton H. Harris of Ogden on May 10, 1946. This marriage was solemnized on August 5, 1959 in the Logan Temple. Milton passed away January 29, 1987.
Verna graduated from Malad High School in 1941 and moved to Ogden the same year.
She worked at Quenn Garment Company and at the Defense Depot of Ogden. Then she moved with her sister, Elsie to Portland, Oregon in 1945 and worked at the Portland ship yard.
After the war ended she moved back to Ogden, and worked at Hill Air Force Base and I.R.S.
Verna belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, Mt. Ogden Ward. She was active in teaching classes in Primary and Relief Society where she also served in the presidency. She taught classes in Genealogy for a few years and spent 15 years doing church extraction for the East Ogden Stake.
She also belonged to the FiWoca Literary Club and Daughters of Pioneers, Camp Sage.
Verna is survived by her son, Dennis Harris and daughter, Jodi Dykster. Also surviving her are two special grandsons, Trenton and Bryson Dykster, she loved them with all her heart, and one sister, Elsie Sperry, two brothers, Gary (Marilyn) and Thomas (Afton) Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton, mother and father, sisters, Anona and Dorothy, and a brother, Boyd.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment will be at Ogden City Cemetery.
