As a boy, Vern loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. In his later years he became an avid golfer, twice accomplishing a hole-in-one. He loved his family and was greatly loved by them as well as by all whose lives he touched.
Vern was active in the L.D.S. Church all of his life serving in many different callings and held the office of a High Priest at the time of his death. He and Hazel worked together in the Boise, Idaho Temple. He loved music and sang as well as played the piano and organ for his own enjoyment.

Sometime We’ll Understand
Not now, but in the coming years,
It may be in the better land,
We’ll read the meaning of our tears,
And there, sometime we’ll understand.
Then trust in God thro’ all thy days
Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand
Tho’ dark thy way, still sing and praise
Sometime, sometime, we’ll understand
We’ll catch the broken threads again
And finish what we here began
Heav’n will the mysteries explain’
And then, oh, then we’ll understand
Then trust in God thro all thy days
Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand
Tho’ dark thy way, still sing and praise
Sometime, sometime, we’ll understand
God knows the way, He hold the key
He guides us with unerring hand
Sometime, with tearless eyes we’ll see
Yes, there, up there, we’ll understand
Then trust in God thro’ all thy days;
Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand
Tho’ dark thy way, still sing and praise
Sometime, sometime we’ll understand
