THOMAS GARTH THOMAS

Thomas Garth Thomas, 83, of Malad, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2005, in Salt Lake City, Utah, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier that same day.

He was born April 16, 1922, in Malad, Idaho, a son of Pete and Cina Jenkins Thomas. He was raised and educated in Malad and later attended Henagers Business College.

Garth married Rebecca (Rea) John on April 2, 1944, in Salt Lake City.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Ogden, Utah. Following his discharge, he returned to Malad where for many years he had farmed and ranched.

Garth was known nationally for his involvement in the Columbia sheep industry, and had been recognized as National Sheepman of the year. He had served as president of the Oneida County Wool and Lamb Pool; president of the St. John Irrigation Company board of directors off the National Sheep Breeders of America; director of the Idaho Purebred Sheep Breeders Association; member of the Utah and Idaho Wool Growers Associations; was a consignor of Columbia sheep to state and National ram sales and show.

Garth is survived by his wife, Rea, of Malad; three children, T. Peter (Jackie) Thomas of San Jose, California; Janesse (Dean) Baker of Lancaster, California; Jeffery J. (Lou Ann) Thomas of Malad; six grandchildren, Arthur (Karla) Thomas, Amy Baker, Steven Dawn Baker, Becky (Shawn) Blaisdell, Tyrell (Jaime) Thomas, and Janie Thomas; seven great-grandchildren; brother, K.P. (Julia) Thomas of Las Vegas, Nevada; and sisters, Helen Williams, of Malad, Katherine Bogk, of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at the Malad LDS Stake Chapel.

Burial followed in the Samaria Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.
