Services Tuesday For Terry Madsen

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Malad LDS Stake chapel for Terryle Reed Madsen, 19, who died Saturday, at the Oneida Hospital of injuries sustained in a car accident Friday night.

Terryle Reed Madsen was born Sept. 29, 1941 at Malad to Reed and Elsie Illum Madsen.

He became engaged in December, 1959 to Madeline Camp of Bountiful, Utah and they had planned to be married in June.

He was a graduate of Malad High School where he participated in athletics and other extra-curricular activities and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of his death he was employed as a mechanic at the Facer Garage.

Survivors include his parents and three brothers, Frank, Eric and Kimball, all of Malad.

A one-car accident on Highway 191 north of Malad Friday night claimed the lives of two young Malad men.

Terryle Reed Madsen, 19, died Saturday and Joseph Dean Jones, 23, died Tuesday. Both were at the Oneida Hospital.

Two others in the car, Donald N. John, 24, Blackfoot, the driver, and Tommy Matthews, 21, Malad, were also hospitalized. Mr. John, who suffered concussion and shock, was released Sunday morning and Mr. Matthews is still receiving treatment for internal injuries.

State Highway Patrolman Victor Barfuss, who investigated the accident, said the driver apparently lost control of the car and hit a guard rail while attempting to bring the car back on the road 2 ½ miles north of Malad. The 27-foot metal guard rail entered the car near the right front wheel and extended through the car on an angle, coming out through the trunk and left tail light assembly.

Mr. Barfuss, who said there were indication of high speed prior to the crash, reported that the car traveled 547 feet out of control across to the opposite side of the highway and hit a second guard rail. Approximately three feet of the first guard rail remained in the car while 24 feet was dragged behind. Impact of hitting the second guard rail spun the car around and it came to a standstill across the middle of the highway.

Mr. Jones was pinned in the middle back seat and trunk and a cutting torch was used to release him. Mr. Madsen was found approximately five feet from where the car stopped. Sheriff John A. Evans assisted Mr. Barfuss with the investigation.
