John Gerald “Jack” Madsen

MADSEN, JOHN GERALD “JACK”, January 6, 1915 – December 2, 2006

Jack Madsen, 91, of Malad City, left this world on Saturday, Decembe3r 2, 2006, and reunited with his sweetheart, Elaine.

Jack was born January 6, 1915, in Elkhorn, Idaho to Jonathan and Ann Amelia Madson, the fifth child in a family of eleven children. He was reared and attended school at Elkhorn and graduated from Malad High School. He attended Stevens-Henager Business School in Salt Lake City until the United States entered World War II, when he moved to Inglewood, California to work at North American Aviation building Mitchell Bombers (B-29s).

He married his dear sweetheart, Elaine Griffiths of Malad, March 14, 1943 in Henderson, Nevada. They were married for all time and eternity on September 10, 1947 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. During their many years together, they were inseparable. To this family was born one son, Brent Gary Madson.

Following the war, they moved back to Malad, where Jack constructed his own home and farmed with his brother, James, at Elkhorn.

Jack was employed for several years with Marion J. Hess Construction, during which he traveled to various construction jobs including building the road between Eagle and Star, Idaho, and in Delta, Utah, where they constructed a dam. He later joined the Oneida County Road Dept, retiring in 1980.

Jack was an avid bowler most of his life and was a championship bowler in California. In 1964, he became part owner in Malad Bowl, and was well known in southeastern Idaho for his bowling skills. He won numerous tournaments and awards, and is a member of the Malad Bowl Hall of Fame.

He was an accomplished fisherman and could pull a fish in from just about any stream or reservoir he cast a hook in. he could wet a line!

Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of High Priest. He was a faithful home teacher, ward clerk of many years, and held other callings.

He is survived by one son, Brnet G. (Flossie) Madson of Soda Springs; brother, Grant madson, Idaho Falls, sister Amerlia Garrick, Laguna Beach, CA, eight grandchildren: Josh (Shyanne) Madson of Blackfoot, Brady Madson, Pocatello; Chelsea and Chelbie Madson, Soda Springs; heather (Kirk) Cairns, Logan; Corrie (Jon) Wolford, Logan; Ashley Madson, Logan; Justin Madson, Salt Lake City; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine Griffiths Madson; two sisters and six brothers.

Jack was a wonderful grandfather and was always forgiving. His legacy of hard work and compassion will be remembered kindly throughout future generations.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Horsley Funeral Home, Malad, Idaho. Friends may call Thursday evening at the funeral home, 6-8 p.m. and prior to the service Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Interment will be at the Malad City Cemetery.
