Stew was of small stature but a job was never too big. His love for farming and the natural ability he had for machinery took him to many different job opportunities.
On March 26, 1960 he married Connie Lavon Weeks in Idaho Falls. They divorced after 32 years of marriage. After farming and working for various farmers for several years, he moved with his family to Bountiful, Utah, in February of 1972. He worked for Chevron Refinery, a challenging job where he made several advancements.

He worked in construction for O & F Construction, harnessing water to make electricity at Dry Creek near Buhl, Idaho, Birch Creek, Fall River and Smith River in northern Idaho, and also in Oregon and California. His abilities were challenged in these different construction jobs, however, he mastered them. His real love was farming which he was engaged in until his illness.
On August 17, 1992, Stewart married Linda Wyzykoski of Alberta, Canada, at Soda springs, Idaho.
