STEPHEN REEL

STONE – Stephen R. Reel Jr., 48, longtime resident of Stone, died Tuesday in the Logan, Utah Regional Medical Center of cancer.

He was born Dec. 13, 1937 in Pinckneyville, Ill., to Stephen and Valeria Braun Reel. He grew up and was educated in Pinckneyville where he graduated from high school and later attended Southern Illinois University.

He married Joyce Winter June 23, 1956 in Pinckneyville.

He worked for Southern Illinois University in the Agriculture Department. He later worked as production manager for the American Hog Co. in Wiggins, Colo. and as vice president of the Tripp-Way Hog Co. in Fort Morgan, Colo. He also worked in Rockchester[sic], Minn. for the Midwestern Swine Breeders.

In 1972, he moved to Stone where he purchased a farm. He farmed, ranched and was a well digger in the Stone area.

He was a member of the Catholic Church and served as president of the DelMar Water Co.

He is survived by his wife, Stone; two sons, David Ross Reel and Stephen Reel III, both of Stone; one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Sandy) Wilcox, Snowville, Utah; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Betty Jean Wilkerson, Creston Junction, Colo.; and Mrs. John (Patricia Ann) Sheley, Pinckneyville.

Funeral services will be Saturday at noon in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, with Father Ernie Anderson officating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
