Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Malad Second Ward for Stanley R. Owens, 49, who was found dead of apparent natural causes at his home in Salt Lake City, Friday morning.
Bishop’s Counselor, Ben Call, officiated at the services held under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
Family prayer was offered by Reed J. Nielsen and at the Chapel, invocation was offered by Raymond T. Owens and the benediction by Espy Thomas. Prelude and postlude music was played by Mrs. Myra Jean John and a solo was sung by Jenkin Palmer. Obituary was given by Harold E. Thomas and the speaker was Ralph W. Harding.
Flowers were carried by members of the American Legion Auxiliary and the casket bearers were Don Owens, Owen Nielsen, Russ Thomas, Ren Thomson, Loren Pack, Jerry Secrist.
Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery where Raiford Benson offered the dedicatory prayer and military rites were conducted by the color guard and firing squad of the Ernest W. Jones Post of the American Legion.
Mr. Owens was born August 8, 1922 at Malad, a son of R.E. and Sadie Little Owens. Reared and educated here, he was married to Anna Bailey in 1942 at Pocatello. The couple later divorced. A veteran of World War 11, Mr. Owens served as a gunner aboard a B-17 aircraft with the U.S. 8th Air Force in England, completing 25 bombing missions. Following his discharge he was employed as a meat department butcher.
Surviving are a son, Richard Stanley, Salt Lake City; two grandchildren; two brothers John T. Ogden; Jedd G. Pocatello; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Helen) Thomas, Lay—Mrs. Reed (Isabelle) Nielsen, Portage.
