Sarah “Tillie” Conley (Birth 28 Sep 1891/Death 13 Feb 1986)

PORTAGE-Sarah M. “Tillie” Conley, 92, longtime resident of Portage, Utah, died Thursday (13 Feb 1986) in a Clearfield, Utah, convalescent home.

She was born September 28, 1891, in Portage, a daughter of James Hyrum and Sarah Maria Green Gibbs. She was also reared and educated in Portage.

She married John F. Conley August 8, 1914, in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple January 14, 1957.

She was a member of the LDS Church and had served as a teacher in Sunday School and Primary, counselor in the Relief Society presidency, in the Port¬age and Washakie Wards, and for many years had been a Relief Society visiting teacher.

She is survived by her husband of Clearfield; two sons, Keith Conley, Camaro Island, Washington; Dr. Max Conley, Farmington, Utah; one daugh¬ter, Mrs. Vodis C. Ward, Idaho Falls; eight grandchildren; 12 great grand¬children; and one great-great-grand¬son. She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton, in 1951.

Funeral services were held for Sarah Conley on Monday, February 17,1986 at 1:00 p.m. in the Portage LDS Ward Chapel. Bishop Larry Howell officiated.

Casket bearers were Eric F. Ward, Michael Max Conley, Jeffrey Clayton Conley, Gordon Gibbs, David J. Conley, David Aland, Calvin Gibbs and Grant Gibbs.

The family prayer was given by Bishop Max Conley (son), prelude and postlude music was played by Faye Morris. The invocation was offered by Eric F. Ward (grandson) and Sydney Conley Aland (granddaughter) told her life sketch.

A vocal quartet performed “O My Father”. Members were Wynn John, Glen Morris, Joe Morris and Doug Gibbs. They were accompanied by Faye Morris. James R. Hall (nephew) then spoke.

Evan Stevenson spoke, followed by the vocal quartet of Wynn John, Glen Morris, Joe Morris and Doug Gibbs and accompanied by Faye Morris singing “Abide With Me”.

Remarks were offered by Bishop Larry Howell and Michael Max Conley (grandson) said the benediction.

Concluding services were at the Portage Cemetery. The Dedicatory Prayer was given by Bishop John Robert Gibbs (nephew).

Compassionate service and care of the flowers was by the Portage Relief Society, Jeanine Gibbs, president.
