Emma Evelyn Harris Conley (Birth – March 30, 1870)

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Portage for Mrs. Emma Evelyn Harris Conley, 83, who died Saturday afternoon (26 December 1953) at Elwood, Box Elder County, Utah, following a three weeks’ illness.

Bishop Walter Gibbs of the Portage LDS ward was in charge of the services. Interment was in the Portage cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.

Robert C. Harris offered the prayer at the home; Arthur Gibbs, invocation; Reed Neilson, benediction; Roy Halford, dedicatory prayer. The speakers were Devere Harris, Moyle E. Facer, Thos. W. Richards, and a tribute, Faye Morris. The musical numbers consisted of a violin solo, Mrs. Spencer Hall accompanied by Mrs. Wendell Camp; trio, Lovell Parkinson, Fern Hall, and Maurine Gibbs, and the Portage Ward Singing Mothers.

Mrs. Conley was born March 30, 1870 at East Portage, a daughter of Enoch Harris and Jane Hoskins Harris. She was reared and educated at Portage and was married to John Franklin Conley Feb. 25, 1886 in the Logan LDS Temple. She resided in Portage all of her life with the exception of six years spent in Brigham City. An active member of the LDS Church, Mrs. Conley served as a Relief Society counselor in the Portage ward, as president of the Portage YWMIA for several years and also as a visiting teacher in the Portage Relief Society.

Surviving are four sons and five daughters; John F. Conley, Mrs. Erma Halford, Mrs. Flossie Knudsen, all of Portage; Alofa L. Conley, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Berdie W. Smith, Brigham City; Ora Dean Conley, Ogden; Uana H. Conley, Malad; Mrs. Vina McCormick, Boise; Mrs. Irelia Simmons, Twin Falls; 31 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren; also four brothers, Ransom and Wilford Harris, both of Ririe, Idaho; Robert C. and William D. Harris, both of Portage.
