Services Today For Mrs. Pierce

Mrs. Sarah Jones Pierce, 74, wife of Wm. S. Pierce and a resident of St. John for 71 years, died Monday evening [Aug. 19, 1957] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nettie Smith, in Idaho Falls where she has resided since breaking her hip in the late summer of 1954.

Mrs. Pierce was born March 9, 1883 at St. John, a daughter of David C. Jones and Mary Stephens Jones. She was reared and educated at St. John and married Wm. S. Pierce there on Dec. 22, 1903. She was a member of the L.D.S. Church, active in the St. John Ward Relief Society, a teacher in Primary and auxiliary organizations. She was also a member of the St. John Chapter, Daughters of Idaho Pioneers.

Surviving are her husband, Idaho Falls; Daughter, Mrs. Frank (Nettie) Smith, Idaho Falls; son, Sherman, Aberdeen; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Larsen, St. John; Mrs. Mary Ellen Woozley, Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Leo (Marianne) Williams, preceded her in death.

Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m. at the St. John L.D.S. Ward Chapel with Bishop Melvin N. Yearsley officiating.

Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Service.
