SAM THOMAS DIES FRIDAY

Samuel “Sam” Daniel Thomas, 80, Malad, died early Friday, May 22, 1981 in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1901, in Malad to William H. and Sarah Jane Williams Thomas. He was educated in Malad. As a young man, he worked on the Buist farm west of Malad.

He married Elsie Gibson Oct. 10, 1923 in Malad. He owned and operated a lounge in Malad for many years and also farmed in the Elkhorn area northwest of Malad.

He was active in the community and was a member of the Malad Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Malad Chapter of the FOE, and an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his widow of Malad; a son and two daughters: Samuel Monte Thomas, Ontario, CA; Mrs. E. Boyd (Faye) Thomas, Bellevue, and Norma jean Thomas, Malad; ten grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; two brothers and a sisters: Russell Thomas, Westminster, CA; Arnold Thomas, Downey, CA; and Mrs. Nick (Betha) Colley, Southgate, CA. He was preceded in death by a son.

Services were held Tuesday, May 26 in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel with Counselor Carl Willie officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
