Ruth Price Powell

Ruth Price Powell, 31 May 1911

Ruth Price Powell, 91, passed away December 8, 2002 in Salt lake City, UT due to heart and lung complications. She was born in Samaria, ID on May 31, 1911 to John Morse and Ruth Williams Price. She was the third child in a family of thirteen children, four brothers and eight sisters.

She married William Jenkins Powell on May 4, 1934 in Pocatello, ID. They had two children, Ruth Ann and William Allan. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple in March, 1965. She was a wonderful lady, friend and neighbor who exemplified dedication, hard work, love and service throughout her entire life in all those she came in contact with.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in various callings including Relief Society, MIA and Primary. She was also an active member in the Harold B. Lee Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp. In addition to being a beautician, she also worked as school lunch supervisor for over twenty years at the Westside High School.

She is survived by her two children, Ruth Ann (Ray) Johnson, Salt lake City, UT; William Allan Powell; nine grandchildren: Brittany Raeann, Shelly Ann, Steve Allan, Stephanie Shandell, Susan Danice, Shalyn, Scott Christopher and Samberly; eight great grandchildren; six sisters: Verda (Rudy) Varga, Tucson, AZ; Emma Pearl (Clifton Alex) Sterrett, Ogden, UT; Mary (Oral) Behunin, Provo, UT; Alta (Mont) Knudsen, Portage, UT; Ann (Royce) Griffith, San Diego, CA; Edith “Patsy” (Khalil) Scott, Pleasantview, ID; William Williams “Bill” (Helen) Price; Jerry Doyle (Donna) Price, St. George, UT; a brother in law, Evan Dee Powell, CA; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Cleo and John Price, two sisters, Lucille Leavitt and Faye Parker, and two sisters in law, Alta Pennock and Ann Olsen.

Many thanks to the Clifton community members, family, friends, and medical staffs who provided assistance to mom throughout the past few years.

Funeral services will be held December 12, 2002 in the Clifton First Ward Chapel with Bishop Reed T. Nelson conducting. Interment will be in the Clifton Cemetery.
