Former Resident Of Malad Dies At Nampa Hospital

Caldwell – Byron Edgar Poust, 90, of 1405 Arlington Street, a retired railroad telegrapher and ticket agent and one of the oldest Masons in Idaho, died Wednesday afternoon in a Nampa hospital.

Mr. Poust worked for railroads in Chicago, Milwaukee, Wis., Salt Lake City and at Malad, Pocatello, Emmett, Minidoka and Caldwell for the Oregon Short Line.

He was born Aug. 21, 1869, in Kingston, Ill., and was reared in Illinois. He was married June 24, 1897, in Kingston to Laura Lentz and the couple moved to Salt Lake City in 1907. He was employed by the Oregon Short Line, which was succeded[succeeded] by the Union Pacific, until his retirement in 1939. The couple had lived in Caldwell and observed their 61st wedding anniversary last June.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge for over 60 years and received his 50-year pin from Mt. Moriah Lodge 39. He was a past master of the Malad lodge and had served as chaplain for the local lodge.

He was employed at the First National Bank, Malad City, from 1916 to 1920.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Poust are a son, Ashley Poust of Bend, Ore.; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Tucker of Caldwell, Mrs. Elizabeth Simpson of San Francisco and Miss Emily Poust of Boise, and three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
