Ruth May Smith Neal, 54, died Saturday, February 4 at the St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden. She was born May 20, 1929 at Malad, Idaho to Hsiel Irven and Ruth Vondella Howell Smith.
She married Chester Peterson Neal, October 23, 1947 at Logan, Utah. She died June 28, 1979.
She lived in Portage all her life. She attended Bear River High School. She was a member of the Portage LDS Ward, served as primary choirmaster, Scout leader, YWMIA teacher, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society President, Relief Society visiting teacher, Relief Society message leader and Relief Society secretary. She was a Postmaster from 1977 and was Portage City Treasurer.
Survivors include one son and two daughters: Parris C. Neal, Smithfield, Utah; Mrs. Thomas Lynn (Gail) Neal, Weiser, Idaho; Mrs. Denese Neal Tree, Portage, Utah. She has 14 grandchildren and one brother, Irven Gay Smith, Van Couver, Washington.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 7 at 11 a.m. at the Portage Ward Chapel with Bishop Larry L. Howell officiating.
Interment was in the Portage Cemetery.
