Ruth C. Lamoreaux, 3 October 1909

ST. GEORGE, UT – Ruth C. Lamoreaux of Downey, ID, age 93, passed away in St. George, UT on March 4, 2003.

Ruth was born at home on October 3, 1909 in Oxforod, ID. She was the first born child of William Leonard Carlson and Laura Lloyd Croshaw Carlson. Ruth’s early years were spent in Oxford and Swan Lake, ID.

She married Virgeul Horace Lamoreaux on September 14, 1927 and the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, UT LDS Temple on March 21, 1928.

For several years Ruth and her husband, “Red”, operated Red’s Café in Downey, ID. Ruth was active in the LDS Church, serving mainly as a teacher in Primary and Relief Society. She also loved quilting with her neighbor friends, participating in the Downey Study Club and teaching piano lessons. Through years of piano teaching, she passed the gift of music onto hundreds of children in southeastern Idaho.

Ruth is survived by one sister, Wilma Helmandollar of Inkom, ID; five children: Clayton (Bonnie) Lamoreaux of Vancouver, WA; Jeanne (Mrs. Jug Jones) of Ogden, UT; Tod (Rosemary) Lamoreaux of Ogden, UT; Terry (Marilyn) Lamoreaux of St. George, UT; and David Lamoreaux of Houston, TX. Ruth is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons Keith and Larry Dee, brothers, Earl Carlson, Pocatello, ID and Grand “Swede” Carlson, Swan Lake, ID, and sister, Coral Scott, Pocatello, ID.

Services will be held on March 14, 2003 in the Downey LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Downey Cemetery, under the direction of Horsley Funeral Home in Malad, ID.
