Roland Kent LaClair, 51, of Bannock Creek, Idaho, passed away at his home early Saturday morning, February 8, 1997.
He was born October 19, 1946 at Garland, Utah, to Ken Edmo LeClair and Irene Pabawena LeClair Jackson. Roland attended school at Hillcrest Elementary in American Falls, Idaho, and grew up in the Bannock Creek area. He spent a few years in White Swan, Washington.
He was employed by local ranchers in the area, and also by Skaar Farms during the harvest. He was a member of the Ten Day Encampment Committee and the LDS Church. He enjoyed tanning hides, singing, and also participated in the Sundances, which are in Bannock Creek.
Roland was a member of the Top-penish Creek Longhouse, Seven-Drummer Religion, White Swan, Washington. He also hunted and fished for the longhouse.
He is survived by his stepfather, Edmond Jackson, Bannock Creek; a sister, Virgilena LeClair Johnson, Pocatello; and one uncle, Ben Pabawena, Fort Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evelyn LaClair, and two brothers, William LeClair and a baby LaClair.
Traditional Native American services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 1997 at the Bannock Creek Cemetery, Arbon, Idaho. The family will meet with friends at the Community Center on the Arbon Valley Highway, off Exit 52, from 3 p.m. today, February 11, until the time of the service, Wednesday, February 12.
