Ruth Ann Thomas Goddard

GODDARD, RUTH ANN THOMAS, May 31, 1875 – February 26, 1956

Mrs. Ruth Ann Thomas Goddard, 80 years of age, died February26, 1956 at her home following a long illness. She was born May 31, 1875 at Malad, a daughter of Frederick and Ruth Price Thomas. She was reared and educated at Malad and has been a lifelong resident of this community. She married Martin Goddard in November of 1894 at Malad. She later received her endowments in the Logan LS Temple in June of 1931. Mr. Goddard died 26 years ago.

Mrs. Goddard was an active LDS Church worker for many years in the Relief Society organization, and was a member of the American War Mothers, Malad chapter.

Surviving are four sons and eight daughters: Mart Goddard, Mrs. Elizabeth Reynolds, Mrs. Jake (Charlotte) Koer of Salt Lake City; John Goddard of Moab, UT; Leland and Fred Goddard of Malad; Mrs. John L. (Millie) Strause, Mrs. Floyd (Ruth) (?) and Mrs. Melvin (June) Thompson of Ely, Nevada; Mrs. Robert (Irene) Richards of Englewood, CA; Mrs. Newel (Anna) Nish of Plymouth, UT; and Mrs. Chester R. (Jennie) Bailey of Garfield, UT; also 63 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and four sisters: Mrs. Liza Waldron of Samaria, ID; Mrs. Janet Thorpe and Mrs. Lillie Caldwell of Malad, and Mrs. Esther Bowen of American Fork, UT.

Funeral services were held in the Malad 4th LDS Ward Chapel with Bisihop Colen Sweeten, Jr. officiating. Family prayer at the home was offered by William Schwartz; invocation, Dr. O.H. Mabey; benediction, Floyd Copen, Jr.; dedicatory prayer, Newell Nish. Speakers were W.W. Thomas and Dr. Thomas W. Richards. Musical numbers consisted of a vocal duet by LaVon Nish and Bishop Oleen Josephson; vocal solo, Helen Edwards Jones; vocal solo, Keith Evans, prelude and postlude music, Margaret B. Laws. A poem tribute to Mrs. Goddard was given by Gary Copen. Casket bearers were John Goddard, Jim Goddard, Gordon Reynolds, Joe Goddard, Don Nish and Ferron Goddard.
