MALAD — Ruel L. “Bud” Pierson, 67, San Jose, Calif., a summer resident of Malad, died Sunday in Malad of heart failure.

He was born July 8, 1917, in Plymouth, Utah, to Hemon Leroy and Marvel Alice Hess Pierson. He received his education at Plymouth and Bear River High School. The family later moved to Oakland, Calif.

He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy for four years.

On Nov. 11, 1946, he married Marcia Eleanor Mercer in Reno, Nev. For a time he had worked for Petri Winery in California and later moved to Malad and worked for the Marian Hess Construction Company. He later returned to California and was employed by FMC Food Machinery Co., retiring in 1980. Since his retirement, he had enjoyed traveling and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of San Jose; one sister, Erma McClurg, Seneca, Calif.; one aunt; two nephews; and several cousins, all of the Malad area.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at noon in the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad. Friends may call today from 8 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
