POCATELLO — Ruel Andrew Christensen, born March 4, 1907, at Cambridge, Idaho, died Sunday, February 25, 2001, at Bannock Regional Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho following a heart attack.
He was the seventh child born to Soren Albert Christensen and Phoebe Mettie Bowman.

Ruel married Dora Elsie Bloxham November 8, 1930. He and Dora recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Ruel was a wheat farmer in the Marsh Valley and Lava areas all of his life. He and Dora had 12 children, losing two children.

The living children include Uvonne (Jay) Christensen of Pocatello, Idaho, DeLene (Reese) Ward of Logan, Utah, Gay Ricks of Clearfield, Utah, Bonnie (Scott) Sheriff of Oak City, Utah, Merna (Ronald) Johnson of Monticello, Utah, currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Chicago, Illinois mission, Ruel Dee Christensen, deceased, Allan (Dee Ann) Christensen of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, Elese (Vernon) Parent of Logan, Utah, Neil (Terri) Christensen of Arimo, Idaho, Rula Dawn Beardall of Ballwin, Missouri, Darrell (Leanne) Christensen of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.

Ruel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had been active most of his life in a variety of positions in the church. Ruel served on the District Scout Council and he also served on the school board while residing in Virginia as well as Arimo. He served on the Arimo village board for years.

Ruel was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters, and two children. He is survived by his wife, Dora, 10 children, 41 grandchildren, 87 greatgrandchildren and 13 great-greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother, Gertrude (Hazen) Hatch of Burley, Gladys Evans of Malad, Ludean (Warren) Eriksen of Pocatello, and Albert Christensen of Boise.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at noon in the Arimo LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Arimo City Cemetery.

The family suggests donations be made to their favorite charity or to the Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
