Ruby Castleton Flatin

FLATIN, RUBY CASTLETON, June 17, 1908 – June 5, 1991

Ruby Castleton Flatin, 82, of Malad, died June 5, 1991 at the Franklin County Nursing Center in Preston of natural causes.

She was born June 17, 1908 in Pleasantview, Oneida County, a daughter of Arthur Robert and Ellen Woolley Castleton. She married Clarence I. Flatin in Rothsay, MN. He passed away in 1960.

She lived during her early life in Malad and Ogden, Utah, and then upon her marriage to Clarence in 1946, for 15 years on their farm in Rothsay, MN and Fargo, ND. Following her husband’s death, she returned first to Logan, UT, where she worked at Sunshine Terrace as a medical aide and then to Malad where she cared for many family members in their times of need.

She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities throughout her life, including service as a teacher and counselor in the Relief Society in Minnesota and North Dakota. She loved to sing, play the piano and had created thousands of pieces of craftwork, which she generously and freely shared with family and friends.

Although not blessed with children of her own, she had been a beloved Aunt Ruby to literally hundreds of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

She is survived by three brothers, Leonard Castleton, Montpelier, Melvin Castleton, Tremonton, UT and Leon (Don) Castleton, Preston, ID. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth C. Davis, and four brothers, Arthur, Harold, Wilford and Ralph.

Funeral services will be Monday at noon in the Malad LDS Second and Fifth Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
