RUBY (BEA) STEPHENSON
Ruby (Bea) Stephenson, long time Ogden resident died Sunday the 6th of August, 2000 at the home of her son in Great Falls, Montana, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born October 27th, 1913 on the family farm in Portage, Utah to Joseph A. Nielsen and Ruby Williams Nielsen. She attended schools in Box Elder County and graduated from Bear River High School. She then attended nursing school in Idaho Falls, Idaho and became a registered nurse. She was devoted to this career until her retirement, working at the Dee and McKay Dee Hospitals.

Bea married Russell A. Stephenson on November 27th, 1936 in Ogden, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. She was very active throughout her life and was a member of many community organizations including the Aglaia Club and as a Doe in the Elks Club. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served diligently in the Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society organizations. Bea loved to fish, golf, play bridge, and bowl and was a true “Green Thumb” gardener. At 86 she was proud to still be driving her car and tending to her precious raspberries. Bea appreciated the help she received from her family and friends which made it possible for her to live in her own home until shortly before she died. Although Bea was known to some as “Mom” and “Grandma”, to almost everyone else she was known as “Aunt Bea”. Even though she is gone, Bea will continue to inspire those that knew her to live life as she did – with zest, having strength in all situations, and always putting others needs first.

Bea loved and was loved by a large family, whom she enjoyed seeing regularly at family reunions. She was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, her parents, her husband and a son, Andrew. She is survived by two sisters, Beth (Lowell) Christensen and LaRue Glasmann both of Ogden, two sons, Michael (Corliss) Stephenson of Great Falls, Montana and Treve (Arlene) Stephenson of Los Gatos, California, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Her family will miss her strength and dedication.
