Death Claims Ex-Teacher, Telegrapher, 83, in Malad

MALAD, IDAHO–Mrs. Dana Wells Stephenson, 83, died Saturday, 7:45 p.m., at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Raiford G. (Dana) Benson, Malad of a heart ailment.

Mrs. Stephenson, who made her home at 1053 E. Center St., Pocatello, had been a telegraph instructor at Sugar City during World War II. She was postmistress several years in South Greenfield, Mo.; taught elementary school at Folsum, N.M., and was a railroad agent and telegraph operator during World War I in Colorado.

Mrs. Stephenson was born Aug. 26, 1877, at South Greenfield, Dade County, Mo., to George W. and Lutitia Weir Wells, She was married to Augustus J. Stephenson, June 21, 1904, at Iola, Kan. and the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Stephenson died Sept. 25, 1950.

SHE HAD RESIDED at Ponds Lodge, Island Park, the last 18 summers. She was an active member of the LDS Church, Moose Lodge, Rebekah Lodge, Railroad Old Timers, all of Pocatello.

Survivors include one son and two daughters, Russell A. Stephenson, Ogden, Utah; Mrs. T. Dean (Eva) Parkinson, Pocatello, and Mrs. Benson, Malad. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Nonnie Hamilton, Dallas, Texas.

FUNERAL SERVICES will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Malad Third LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call Benson Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services.

Burial will be in the Portage, Utah, Cemetery under direction of Benson Funeral Home.
