Royal O. Swenson, 71, died here May 1st
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Malad Third LDS Ward Chapel for Royal Oscar Swenson, age 71, who died Wednesday, May 1st, at Oneida Hospital of a heart ailment.
Mr. Swenson was born Jan. 20, 1903, Logan, Utah, a son of Oscar J. and Isabell Andrews Swenson. He married Tressa Bailey July 7, 1927, in American Falls. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was reared and educated at Logan and Arbon Valley. He farmed many years in the Arbon Valley area, and later served as a Malad policeman. He was an ardent sportman(sic) and active LDS churchworker and he served an LDS Mission in Rapid City, S. D. He also served one term as state representative from Oneida County. He was manager of Little League baseball tournaments in Malad many years and was secretary of Rural Conservation and Development Industrial Commission for 11 years.
Survivors are his widow of Malad; three sons, R. Dean of Sumter, S.C., Dr. R. Jay of Plano, Tex., and Doyle L. of Bountiful, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Janiel) Phillips of Idaho Falls and Mrs. John (Twila) Halbom of Perkaise, Pa.; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Vadel L. Swenson of Malad, four sisters, Mrs. Paul (Gladys) Clark and Mrs. Don (Wanda) Goddard of Malad, Mrs. Clem (Venice) Davis of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Lewis (Valois) Wickham of Seattle, Washington.
Bishop Phil Gillies officiated at the services. Speakers were President Devere Harris, Mission President Rex Reeves, and Marilyn Harker, who read the obituary. Family prayer was offered by Patriarch Moyle Facer; invocation, Lloyd Sorensen, and benediction, Leland Bailey. Connie Budge and Lana Esplin sang a duet and Eldon Corbridge, a solo. Carol Semrad played an organ solo and prelude and postlude music.
Jay Swenson offered the dedicatory prayer at Malad City Cemetery.
Flowers were carried by the granddaughters, nieces, and members of Malad Third Ward Relief Society, Ida Smith, president.
Members of Malad Stake High Priest Quorum served as honorary bearers.
Casket bearers were Richard Halbom, John Halbom, Sheldon Vaughan, Sherman Vaughan, Brent Bowen, Tarrell O. Jones, Jimmy Goddard and Jess P. Ward.
Interment was directed by Benson Funeral Home.
