Rollins W. King

Malad, Ida –Rollins W. King, 66 died at his home on Bush avenue here at six p. m. Wednesday, after a long illness.

Although invalided for many years as a result of a back injury suffered in 1921, his death came unexpectedly.

Services will be held at two p. m. Saturday, at L.D.S. Malad Second ward.

He was born at Pulaski, Iowa on May 1 1884, a son of Amelia Melissa Goddard and Dennison G. King. He left his home in Iowa in 1902 and went to San Francisco, Calif., and stayed there until 1907, when he went to Salt Lake City and was employed by the Salt Lake Hardware Co.

He was in San Francisco at the time of the 1906 earthquake and lost all of his belongings in one of the hotels destroyed at the time.

He came to Malad in March, 1908, and operated a leather shop here for several years. He then took up land in the Juniper section and that is where he was injured while plowing land. He also worked in Ogden for J. G. Read and Co. during World War 1 and made leather goods for the federal government.

He married Mary Bell Jones in 1908.

A member of the L. D. S. church, he held many responsible church positions before being disabled.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Betty K. Deschamps, Albuquerque, N. M.; Mrs. DePhane Taylor, Malad; one brother, Wilbur D. King, Los Angeles, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Ammie Shelton, Los Angeles, Calif.; Ruth King, Redlands, Calif.; Mrs. Hallie Kennedy, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Adah Gasser, Chillicothe, Iowa, and four grandchildren.
