Robert Dalton Wheeler

NORTH OGDEN – Robert Dalton Wheeler, age 66, the beloved husband of Joyce Mills Wheeler and loving father to Bob and Mike Wheeler passed away on May 5, 2001 at Infinia Care Center in Ogden of complications from Alzheimer’s. Bob was born on Feb. 9, 1935 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His parents were Lawrence A Wheeler and Nellie Dalton Wheeler. He spent his youth in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. He enlisted in the Army and spent three years in Germany. In the fall of 1956 he enrolled at Utah State Univ. Bob and Joyce were freshmen at USU. They were married on Sep 3, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Joyce went to work and Bob went full time to school. He earned a B.S. in Math, B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and PhD in Physics.
During his career he worked for E.G. and G. in Las Vegas on radar for the Stealth bomber, Motorola in Scottsdale, AZ, Thiokol, T.R.W., Ultrasystems and retired after 15 years with G.T.E. in Ogden, Utah. Most of his career was with defense contracts on the Minuteman and other missile systems.
He taught night classes in Math, Engineering, physics and Computers at Weber State Univ., Mesa Jr. College, Stevens-Henager, and was an adjunct faculty member – Electrical Engineering Dept., Utah State University.
Bob was a High Priest in the No. Ogden 7th Ward and had served in various callings in the LDS Church. He served in three Bishoprics, No. Ogden 7th Ward, Pleasant View Utah Stake singles Ward and Weber State 2nd Branch for single students. He loved the youth and they loved him.
Bob enjoyed life. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was always the life of the party. Everyone loved to be around him. His quick wit was a real talent. He believed in education. There was never a doubt that Joyce was his greatest possession and his sons were his greatest joy. He kept his sunny attitude to the end and although he mourned his loss he never let it ruin his life. He had dignity and he was truly a great man.
Bob is survived by his mother; wife Joyce; and two sons, Bob (Jo-Anna) Wheeler, N.Y., NY, and Dr. Michael (Lisa) Wheeler of Granger, Indiana. He has five darling grandchildren, Jeremy, Oliver, Shaelyn, Bryce and Nicole Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his father; and brother Lawrence D. Wheeler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 7th Ward Chapel, 205 E. Elberta Drive. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
