ELIASON, RICHARD

Richard Eliason, age 27, Arimo, died March 20, 1972 in the Marsh Valley Hospital, Downey, of injuries received in a tractor-bus accident two miles south of Virginia.

An unloaded school bus, operated by Austin Marley, 60, Arimo, collided with the tractor driven by Mr. Eliason about 8:10 a.m. on the Marsh Creek Road, according to Idaho State Police Officer Arlo Larsen, Downey. The bus was attempting to pass the tractor. The impact flipped the tractor into the roadside borrow pit. Mr. Eliason received a broken arm, broken legs and ribs, multiple bruises and abrasions.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Arimo LDS Chapel with Bishop Jonathan McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Downey Cemetery under the direction of Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Eliason was born August 20, 1944 at Logan, Utah to Bert and Luzelle Sorensen Eliason. He married Sue White march 16, 1970 in the Logan LDS Temple.

He was a graduate of Marsh Valley High School, where he was student body president and attended Brigham Young University and Utah State University. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for which he served an LDS mission in northern Germany. He was first counselor in the MIA, a Sunday School teacher and advisor in the Arimo Ward.

He had served in Vietnam, May, 1968 to August, 1969, with the Idaho National Guard. At the time of his death he was state chairman of the Idaho Young Farmers and Ranchers.

Survivors include his widow and an infant daughter, Jan Eliason, Arimo; his parents, Malad; two brothers, Dr. Clair Bert Eliason, Boston, MA and David R. Eliason, Snowville, Utah; a sister, Mrs. H. James (Patricia) Goodro, Salt Lake City.
