OGDEN, Utah- Reynold Emerson Davis, 80, died April 4, 2000, from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
He entered this life Oct. 8, 1919, in Downey, Idaho, delivered by a doctor who arrived at the family home on a horse. He was the first of 10 children born to Reynold and Leona Davis. He graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 1937.
Emerson was a veteran of World War II, serving his country for three and a half years. Missions included the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
He won many blue ribbons showing his Ayrshire cattle at the Idaho State Fair.
March 1950, he married Mildred Meppen. They had four children: Brian, Julie, Michelle and Leslie. They were later divorced. Emerson later married Mary Mae Rose Nov. 15, 1958. They had three children: Mark, Jill and Joy. This marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City temple Feb. 6, 1967.
He worked as a dairy man, farmer, brakeman on the railroad, road construction worker, Meadow Gold Dairy milkman, worked with cattle and young men at the State Industrial School, and retired from Defense Depot-Ogden in 1981, after 18 years of government service.
He served in various callings in the Ogden 42nd Ward for many years. He was well-known as a horse man. He loved raising, training and racing thoroughbreds.
Surviving are five brothers, Van and (Lois) Davis, Montana, Max and (Cecily) Davis, Hooper, Utah, Perry Davis, California, Ben Davis, Rose Park, Utah, Clark and ( Linda) Davis, California; three sisters, Gwen Woodson, Boise, Lois Anderson, Texas, Cherol and (Clifford) Abbot, Lava Hot Springs; two sons, Brian and ( Judy), Montana, Mark and ( Laura), Ogden, Utah; five daughters, Julie and ( Tim ) Brigs, Vancouver, Wash., Michelle and ( Chuck) Thorne, Idaho Falls, Leslie Gibbons, Salt Lake City, Jill and ( Paul) Greenwood, Ogden, Utah, Joy and (Laythe) Hartwell, San Diego. Calif; 35 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Mae Rose Davis, mother Leona T. Scott, father Reynold Davis, sister Yvonne Davis, grandchild, Natalie, and great grandchild, Aolna.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April8, at 10 a. m. in the Ogden Second Ward Chapel, 480 Seventh St. Friends may call a the Larkin and Sons Mortuary tonight, Friday, April 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Downey, Idaho, Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a written memoir about Emerson.
