EVANS, RAYMOND JONES, October 29, 1900 – July 21, 1988
Raymond Jones Evans, 87, of Malad, died July 21, 1988 in the Oneida County Nursing Home.
He was born October 29, 1900 in Malad to William Morgan and Mary Jones Evans. He was raised and educated in Malad and attended Henagers Business College in Salt Lake City. As a young man he worked in the silver mines in Butte, Montana and Park City, Utah.
He married Matel Elvira Jensen December 26, 1929. Their marriage was solemnized July 9, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. She died October 14, 1980.
He owned and operated a ranch on Devil Creek, north of Malad, until his retirement in 1970.
He was instrumental in planning for Devil Creek Reservoir and was on the water board for 20 years.
He was a member of the LDS Church and was a high priest. He served as a stake missionary and was in the Elder’s Quorum presidency, Young Men’s presidency and the Sunday School superintendency. He was an avid Boy Scout supporter and in 1971 received the Silver Beaver award. For many years he and his wife worked in the Logan Temple.
He enjoyed geology, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by three sons, Raymond J. Evans, Delat, CO; Robert H. and W. Don Evans, both of Malad; three daughters, Mrs. Keith (Wilma) Fridal, Tremonton, UT; Mrs. Richard (Nedra) Preece, Vista, CA; Mrs. Verdean (Marcia) Daughterty, Hyrum, UT; 25 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one brother, Lester William Evans, Grass Valley, CA; and one sister, Leola “Bonnie” Cavana, Alameda, CA. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held July 25, 1988 at the Malad Third Ward with Bishop Marvin Hess officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
