RALPH TOVEY
MALAD – Ralph Tovey 81, Malad, passed away Jan. 31, 2000 of heart failure.

He was born Sept. 3, 1918 in Malad, Idaho to George Chivers Tovey and Florence Reese Tovey. He wa raised and educated in Malad. He graduated from the University of Moscow. He also served in World War II.

He married Mary Jane Jones on Jan. 9, 1940. They owned and operated a farm in Cherry Creek. Mary Jane passed away Nov. 1, 1974.

Ralph was Oneida County assessor for over 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion, Woolgrowers Association and Farm Bureau Federation for 50 years. He loved to hunt and fish. Ralph will be remembered for his keen sense of humor.

Ralph is survived by a son and two daughters. Gerald Ralph, who has been his main caregiver for the past two years, Joan (Elden) Nielsen, Malad, Marilyn Mansfield, Pocatello. He has nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister. Elaine Rumsey, one brother, DeVere (Lora), both of Preston, and one sister-in-law, Norma Jones, Rigby. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 at noon at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home. Viewing will be Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery, with military rites being performed by the American Legion Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.
