Rachel Leigh, of Idaho Falls, died Tuesday, January 21, 1997, at the Idaho Falls Care Center.
Rachel was born November 12, 1901 to Reese V. and Mary Ann Kent Jones in Malad City, Idaho. She was raised in Malad and graduated from Malad High School in 1921.
She married Daniel J. Leigh, December 29, 1921 in Malad. They started their family while they were in Malad and moved to Idaho Falls in 1941. Rachel began working in the potato processing plants shortly after arriving in Idaho Falls and worked in these plants on and off throughout the years. In November 1947, the family suffered a great loss when their father died, leaving Rachel with five daughters to raise on her own. She began providing child care for many families in the area.
She was a devout Christian. She was known for her creativity, quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, and she shared these talents with her children and grandchildren. But most especially, she enjoyed the time she would spent with her family.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Alta (Willis) Fluke; Danna (Don) Fluke, Ann (Martin) Littleton, all of Idaho Falls; twenty grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: husband, Daniel Leigh; sister, Doshia “Lou” Arnold; brother, “Nat” Jones; and two daughters: Jean Hooper and Marian Bea Fowler.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 24 in Idaho Falls. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
