RACHEL HUGHES SMITH
Smithfield, Utah – Rachel Hughes Smith, 82 of Smithfield, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Logan Regional Hospital.

She was born Nov. 17, 1917, to James Roberts and Elizabeth Jenkins Hughes of Pleasant View, Idaho. She attended Pleasant View Grade School and Malad High School. After high school, she went to Logan to work and met Ephraim Smith. They married in 1939. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He passed away in 1988.

Rachel was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in various capacities including secretary of the Primary and Relief Society and visiting teacher in the old Smithfield 1st Ward. Mom will be deeply missed. She spent many hours baking and sharing what she made. She loved her family and friends and was always busy. She worked at Cache Valley Dairy for over 20 years.

She is survived by her children, Burke Ephraim (Kathy) Smith, Smithfield, Tamara Smith, Smithfield, Connie (Bob) Seamons, Benson and James Roger (Nancy) Amalga; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia Frisby. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ephraim; six sisters and one brother, Melba Barnes, Emma Whitworth, Jane Jessop, Wanda Thorp, Ramona Jones, Elizabeth Mae Hughes, and James J. Hughes.

Funeral services will be at noon on Wednesday, April 5, in the Smithfield 9th Ward chapel, 155 W. 400 North, with Bishop LaMont Poulsen conducting. Friends may call on Wednesday prior to the services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
