PEIRCE AMMON SORENSEN

Peirce Sorensen dies Sunday in Salt Lake

Peirce Ammon Sorensen, 59, died Sunday at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City of cancer.

He was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Arbon to Ammon and Cora Nancy Hardmen Sorensen. He attended Arbon and Malad schools and graduated from Malad high School. He received a degree in agronomy at Brigham Yong University. He served a mission in the New England States and served in the U.S. Army in world war II in the South Pacific.

On Sept. 3, 1947, he married Gwendolyn Elizabeth Sutton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The family lived and farmed at Arbon moving to Malad during the winter months. He was a lifelong resident of the area.

He was a member of the LDS Church, had served as secretary in the Malad Stake Welfare committee and had been in the presidency of the Sunday School. He held the office of high priest and was a quorum teacher. At the time of his death he was a county committeeman for Farm Home Administration. He was a former member of the Oneida County ASC committee and of the Oneida Farm Bureau board. He had been chosen outstanding farmer of the year for his accomplishments in soil conservation.

Survivors include his wife, Malad; three sons and two daughters; Terry Peirce Sorensen, Salt Lake City; Jay Randall Sorensen, Portland, Ore.; Robert David Sorensen, serving a Belgium LDS mission; Mrs. Edward (Patricia Ann) Cross, Provo, Utah; Mrs. Michael (Jeanette Elizabeth) Guymon, Orem, Utah; two grandchildren; and three sisters; Mrs. Jess (Verda) Hughes, Malad; Mrs. Sherman (Norma) Boyler, Garland, Utah and Mrs. Milton (Gladys) Nelson, Provo, Utah.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Wesley Crowther officiating.
