Pearl H. Stuart
MALAD–Pearl Hughes Stuart, 80, 186 N. 100 W. , Malad, died Wednesday at the Oneida County Hospital in Malad.
She was born in Pleasantview to Taleisin and Sarah Thorpe Hughes. She was reared and educated in Pleasantview and Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School.
She married Daniel W. Stuart on Nov. 12, 1924, in the Logan LDS Temple. He died May 29, 1957. She lived in Malad until 1942, when the family moved to Ogden, Utah.
They later lived in Roy, Utah, and she returned to Malad in 1971. She was an active member of the LDS Church and had been an organist in all of the auxiliary organizations of the church. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and as a young woman played for the silent movies at the theatre in Malad. She also played for different dance bands and taught piano lessons for many years.
Mrs. Stuart is survived by two sons, Daniel Stuart Jr., Redding, Calif., and David H. Stuart, Layton, Utah; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Glenavere) Ward, Wilson, Wyo.; Mrs. Vernel (Deloris) Holley, Ogden, Utah, and Mrs. David (Bardee) Southwick, Idaho Falls; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Verlaine (Ila) Larsen, Montpelier. She was preceded in death by two sons, two grandchildren, and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
